Ariana Grande and Her Dog Toulouse Are Vogue Magazine’s August Cover Stars

Ariana Grande and one of her adorable rescue dogs, Toulouse, are Vogue Magazine’s new cover stars for August. Ari shared the news this morning with a post on her Instagram with a caption saying, “thanks for allowing me to be in the background of toulouse’s first Vogue cover @voguemagazine.”

In the cover photo, which was shot by photographer Annie Leibovitz, Ari wears a textured black dress by Dior with a massive black hat while her adorable Beagle-Chihuahua mixed companion appears au naturel, flaunting his naturally tanned fur — two looks perfect for the beach.

While the cover image appears sunny and lighthearted, the corresponding story — titled “Ariana Grande on Grief and Growing Up” — goes deep into Ari’s experience navigating song writing, making bangers like “Thank U Next”, and touring internationally, all while healing and dealing with PTSD and grief. The singer told the publication, “…it’s hard to sing songs that are about wounds that are so fresh. It’s fun, it’s pop music, and I’m not trying to make it sound like anything that it’s not, but these songs to me really do represent some heavy shit.”

Other story highlights include telling details from Ariana’s Florida upbringing — according to the profile, she grew up in, “a household that relished characters” while the theme of her third birthday party was Jaws. She loved to “run around the house in a Jason mask” and on Halloween, her mother would “buy animal organs and leave them floating in dishes”. Hmm.

Ariana told the magazine that her family is “eccentric and weird and loud and Italian,” sharing that her mother is “goth” and that, “she has a way of taking on everyone’s pain”.

Ari, who’s a Cancer, also spoke about her love life, calling her ex Pete Davidson “an amazing distraction” and describing their relationship as “frivolous and fun and insane and highly unrealistic”. Though she says she loved him but “didn’t know him”, Ari expressed, “I’m like an infant when it comes to real life and this old soul, been-around-the-block-a-million-times artist. I still don’t trust myself with the life stuff.” She also got real about her tumultuous relationship with Mac Miller, whose dog she reportedly adopted in 2018.

In honor of the cover story, the singer posed for a special video for the magazine, directed by Bardia Zeinali, wearing her typical high ponytail, high heeled black boots, a black mini-puffer jacket and matching pants, both blinged out with crystal details. Gucci tennis shoes as well as a black panther sculpture make an appearance in the short video as she sings “it was all in my head” over and over again.
